Siyavuna means harvest in the Zulu language and our non-profit organization operates in the Ugu District of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa where 5.3 million people suffer hunger and malnutrition with 1.2 million people living on less than US$1 a day
Our mission is to train and mentor emerging organic farmers for food security, developing successful micro-enterprises through Farmer’s Associations that market the produce under the Kumnandi brand. Kumnandi means delicious in Zulu.
We have over 680 smallholder farmers participating in the progamme and began working in 2010
We’re alleviating poverty and food insecurity, stimulating local economy and enabling entrepreneurship and responding to vulnerable communities affected by climate change, but we need your support.
The structures that Siyavuna have in place, being the Farmer Associations and Co-op boards have proven to be a great asset to the communities we work in. Siyavuna is providing people with opportunities to enhance food security, farming knowledge and viable sources of income. The Kumnandi brand stimulates the local economy in ecologically safe ways and gives the farmers a sense of security and pride in what they do, and it can only get better from here.
Our core values are Accountability, Communication, Integrity and Leadership
